Podcasts for Public Good!
Funded Aug 10, 2019I wanted to say thank you on behalf of myself and my students. We ended the year with a new version of a favorite project and thanks to you, the students got to learn a variety of new collaborative, tech, and life skills.
Before your donations, I only had two microphones and groups had to either settle for a lower quality product without the microphones or delay their work to have a chance to use them. You should have seen their faces when I pulled box after box of microphones out! They were ecstatic and I could see we had a hit!
The students' podcast consisted of a podcast title, episode title, social media ad, and of course, their recording of the groups insights on their self-directed topic. It was a joy to hear students having in-depth discussions about so many things: the true nature of love, what students do or do not learn in school, the need to ask parents and family members how to do certain life skills before college, etc. I was proud of them but I was overjoyed because they were proud of themselves. Thank you.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Thompson
This classroom project was brought to life by J.W. Couch Foundation and one other donor.Transforming the Classroom with Collaborative Tech
Funded Sep 27, 2017When I became a teacher more than a dozen years ago, I had specific goals and hopes for my future students. I want students to feel heard, important, valued, and supported. I want students to enjoy school and especially English.
I believe in practicing skills not included in traditional standards: creativity, collaboration, project management, and others. By having a classroom environment which supports students' choices, I feel even more inspired to make each class better than the class before.
Our students were thrilled when the furniture was set up and again when the screens were installed. We have since used them in a variety of ways and the students' reactions have been better than I anticipated. I look forward to showing you all we do this year at our own Open House.
These past few weeks, several of my previous students who helped research learning environments and wrote the CTA IFT grant last year have visited because so many people are talking about our room. You should see the excitement when they come back to 3212; I see the realization that their ideas were good and their efforts were supported by the parents in their community.
Because of your impact, students feel like they too can have an impact, and I will honor your generosity by continuing to make class after class feel this way.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Thompson
