  • Charging our iPads and Glue for Glubber!

    Funded Aug 24, 2019

We were able to charge our classroom iPads thanks to the resources in this project. Every morning my students finished their breakfast and worked on the iPads, learning their multiplication tables using the Reflex Math app. My students loved having the iPads charged up and the new charging cords helped us charge up the different types of iPads we have.

We were unable to make Glubber, due to my retirement, but as you can see in the photos, we used the glue for an art project with our owl pellet bones. My students loved working together to make unique beasts with their bones. Because of your generosity, we were able to glue down the bones!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kugelman

  • Third Graders Want to Dissect Owl Pellets!

    Funded Nov 27, 2018

Dissecting owl pellets is always an activity I look forward to having my students participate in. There is excitement in the air as they announce, "Mrs. K, look at the teeth! I have five skulls!" This year was very exciting because one of my students found a very large hind leg. We speculated what type of animal the owl must have caught. Thank you so much for letting this year's students experience owl pellets.

Yes, they are gross, and a lot of students wanted to wear gloves, but the educational value of this experience is huge and worth it!”

    Mrs. Kugelman

  • Diversity Is Strong in Our Community - Read On!

    Funded Dec 3, 2018

Everyone, especially the parents and students at our school, are excited about having these amazing selection of diversity books at our school. The parents put in a special sticker in each book thanking me for this donation to our school, and they have set up a special check-out system in our school library so teachers can check out these books.

Many parents have volunteered to make arrangements with the teachers so the parents can come in and read the books to the students. This way both the teacher and the students can hear a diverse book new to our school. We hope that in future years the teachers will fall in love with some of these books and add it to their classroom curriculum Your generosity helping to donate to this project and match donations with the amazing diversity grant is so very special. Thank you for changing our school in a positive way with these books!”

  • New Pencil Sharpener and CD Drive Needed!

    Funded Jan 28, 2019

An electric pencil sharpener is a must for every classroom! All day long my students use this. A high quality pencil sharpener like this one means that it will last for many years. Why is the sharpener on the floor? Because when I had a sharpener on a table, it invariable fell to the floor and broke when a student accidentally tripped on the cord.

Now that this pencil sharpener is safe and sound on the floor, everyone in our classroom can use if for many, many years. Thank you for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

  • STEM Girls Club Wants to Learn Block Coding!

    Funded Oct 11, 2018

The students participating in block coding are learning a lot and really enjoying themselves. There are many challenges in helping the computer character, Awbie, jump or move to various locations, and my students are eager to figure out the correct block programming moves.

They also have tried Hour of Code' block programming lessons, and are currently excited about coding our LEGO robots. We couldn't have made so much progress with my third graders if we hadn't have started with OSMO coding. Thank you very much! My female students and my mail students love Coding with Awbie!”

  • Penguin Chicks Informational Text

    Funded Nov 4, 2018

My students and I learned so much about the Emperor Penguin with this class set of Penguin Chicks books. Thank you so much for your help and generosity in helping us add these books to the third grade class libraries! After my students finished reading the book, they selected different adaptations that the Emperor Penguin has in order to survive in Antarctica. The students especially loved learning about the brood patch that both the male and female adult Emperor Penguins have in order to keep the egg warm and off the ice. We have my students' finished frame drawings and facts posted in our room. Thank you again for your great help.”

  • Learning Financial Literacy with the Online Stock Market Game #3

    Funded Sep 24, 2018

Thank you very much for helping our class receive an iPad so they can learn financial literacy by playing the online Stock Market Game. We have ten teams in our class, and we use the iPads to check on the value of the $100,000 of virtual stocks my students have purchased. Without this iPad, we would not have enough technology available in our classroom. We especially want to thank the Charles Schwab Foundation for matching donations to our project. Without their generosity, we would not have been able to get our project fully funded.”

  • Financial Literacy With Calculators

    Funded Sep 24, 2018

Thank you very much for donating to our calculator project! We have been using the calculators each time the students work on the Stock Market Game. The students are playing an online virtual stock market game. They have to analyze the current price per share and use their calculator to help them determine how many shares of stock they need to virtually purchase. Without the calculators, my third grade students would have to guess how many stocks to purchase. We also use the calculators to add enrichment to our math lessons by being able to cross multiply with much larger fractions than what my students could handle without having a calculator.”

  • Learning Financial Literacy with the Online Stock Market Game

    Funded Sep 4, 2018

Thank you so much for helping us add another iPad to our classroom technology. My students love researching stocks and purchasing them with the $100,000 virtual money they have to spend in the Stock Market Game. What a surprise when some of their stocks lost value during the "corrections" to the actual stock market a few weeks ago!

Learning financial literacy is essential as a life skill. Thank you to the Charles Schwab Foundation for matching donations to this project. Without your match, we could not have funded this project. You rock, and so do all of our donors!”

  • Learning Financial Literacy with the Online Stock Market Game #2

    Funded Sep 16, 2018

Thank you so much for donating to our Stock Market project! My students love researching the stocks they want to invest in by using our new iPad. They were surprised to see that the stock value went down after some market corrections were made, so this is a great time to teach the students about the risks involved when investing in stocks and the gains they can make when they re-invest their $100,000 of virtual money. Thank you to the Charles Schwab Foundation for matching donations made to our project.”
