The Ukulele Project!

Funded Apr 28, 2017

Thank you so much for your interest and support in our Ukulele Project. This project is helping to support a fun program for our kindergarten students, that they otherwise would not be able to do!

These Ukuleles will be used in many ways. The students will get to have hands-on experience during their music classes many times throughout the year. I will be working with them on strumming, basic chords, and even putting together a couple easy songs! I also aim to start an after school Ukulele club in the spring to provide additional instruction to students who want to learn more about the instrument. On top of that, my high school students were so jealous that the kindergarten classes get to play Ukulele, many of them have volunteered to help with our club so they can learn as well!

We received several of the instruments at the end of last school year, and the students were ecstatic! We had an "unboxing" party where each class I saw got to open one instrument and find out what color it was. They ooh-ed and ahhh-ed over each new color. They made me tune them right away so they could try them out! After receiving the rest of the instruments over the summer, I have shared them with our new students, and they can't wait to get started, and neither can I. It's such a fun unit!

Currently in our classroom at the kindergarten center, we are learning songs to sing for our upcoming Veteran's Day program, as well as holiday programs soon after. The students will not only get the opportunity to learn the Ukulele, but also hand drums, xylophones, and much more! Their favorite however, is the Ukulele, and it was only with your help that we were able to provide them with an entire class set to use in school. I hope to continue improving this program and providing these students with a unique experience! I firmly believe you are never too young (or too old), to start learning an instrument, and the Ukulele is a perfect fit for my students!”

With gratitude,
