Funded Oct 14, 2018We'd like to thank you in advance for the impact your donation will have on our students once they travel to Southeast Asia for 2 weeks. Our students will be traveling to Phnom Penh for 3 days, Siem Reap for 3 days, Hanoi for 3 days, Nha Trang for 3 days and Saigon for 3 days. During the trip we'll be teaming up with US, Cambodian, and Vietnamese non-profit organizations that stress the importance of improving education and environment. Throughout the journey, students will have an opportunity to teach students English, make cultural connections through sports, sitesee, learn the history of each country, and improve both communities.
Last year when we traveled to China, one highlight of the trip was taking our students to the Great Wall of China located outside of Beijing. This school year when we travel, students are going to be thrilled when they make connections with students in each country while seeing major sites like the Great Wall of China, the Mekong River, the Killing Fields, the Cu Chi Tunnels and the Vietnam War Museum located in Vietnam.
Upon our return from China last year, students were inspired. There were many students who felt like things slowed down for them because they were able to see just how good life really was after visiting a developing country. After going to Cambodia and Vietnam, we expect our students to have that same feeling. Upon students return to Oakland California, they'll begin by leading a gallery walk around our high school auditorium so that they can educate our school community on what it meant to them. Students will also have a banquet dinner where parents and community members will come out to watch our short film that we put together on the trip. We want to capture the moment and bring it back so that students can continue to dream of traveling our world and educating our communities.
Our Pacific Bridge Club at Castlemont High School would like to thank you again! There are no words that can describe how much our students will be impacted prior to, during, and after this trip but the effects will be during their lifetime. They'll always be able to reflect on the importance of experiencing an international perspective. Our students from last year continue to rave about China and I know with our group doubling in one year and our trip to Southeast Asia this year, our students will have memories for the rest of their lives.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Guy
2018 Pacific Bridge Trip to China for Oakland's Male Students
Funded Oct 18, 2017Our 11th and 12th grade men do not leave for China until April of 2018 but they are extremely excited about our action pact itinerary. In Xian, our club will be visiting an orphanage, the Terracotta Soldiers, Mongolian Controlled City from the 1200's (Yuan Dynasty Empire), the end of the Silk Road and they'll be participating in a scavenger hunt.
In Shanghai, students will be visiting a sweatshop, a textile factory, the Oriental Pearl Tower, Nanjing Lu, and Shanghai's Stock Exchange. Our Pacific Bridge Club will finish up our trip in China by taking a bullet train to Beijing. In Beijing, we'll visit a local village, see the Great Wall, check out the Forbidden City, see the Olympic buildings, visit parks, walk Tiananmen Square, and we'll have an exotic food eating contest.
This trip has raised an awareness around our community about us going to China. It's motivated not only our 11th and 12th grade men, but it has also motivated our 9th and 10th graders, our middle school students and their families, and local businesses because we wear t-shirts that raise awareness for illnesses that plague our community such as cancer in October, diabetes in November and now AIDS/HIV in December.
With young men knowing that they're going to China, they've began to work harder by committing themselves to school, the club, and each other. For all of them, this is they're first time leaving the Americas. For many this is is their first time getting a passport and for some, this is their first time buying luggage. This is Pacific Bridge Club's first year doing something like this and we want you to know that we appreciate your generous donation. Your donation will change their lives and give them a perspective on life that few actually witness. We're so excited that you thought of us for our journey to China and we'd like you to keep following us as we grow at the following site: pacificbridgeclub.org
You'll be able to see the pictures from our trip on our website after we return in early May. If you'd still like to donate or contribute, fee free to contact me. The number's on the website. Again, thank you so much!!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Guy
