Exploring the World of Nonfiction in Science

Funded Dec 18, 2016

I just want to thank you so much for funding my project, having these books in my classroom is amazing. I don't think students realized that nonfiction books could be so interesting or cool. These are allowing students to gain reading comprehension skills and experience with nonfiction texts both of which are very important for ISTEP and the SAT. The books also bring exciting new projects to the classroom like Book Trailers, Book Reviews, and Blogging.

Adding reading to my class time is quite fun, students will sit in desks but as time goes on some move to the floor and some to the lab tables to get more comfortable.

A particular favorite is a graphic novel about Hurricane Katrina, Drowned City. The students love the graphics and the story really makes learning about storms come alive. The students also enjoy reading more about Charles Darwin in Charles & Emma.”

With gratitude,
