Trauma and Stress in the Classroom
Funded Oct 31, 2024Thank you so much for fulfilling my Donors Choose - Trauma and Stress in the Classroom. I have seen a difference already.
My student that has trouble really responds well to mint gum, so I have been able to give everyone that works with him packs of gum to help redirect him in the classroom. My class suffers as well, so I am so happy that I can also provide them with gum as a reward for when my students reacts in inappropriate ways during instruction.
My student was so excited to see all the gum I received. I showed the class as well, and they were excited too. The teachers were excited that they didn't need to go out and "buy one more thing" for school - I am truly grateful.
Thank you again for funding my project, I am so happy to be able to redirect my student and to reward the rest of the class. This has been such a blessing. Thank you.”

Stress Relief for Hybrid Learning
Funded Mar 24, 2021Thank you very much for the items for my "Stress relief for Hybrid Learning" in my classroom. My students are motivated to work because of the eraser "desk pets" we have. It's helping to keep them happy and focused on something other than the pandemic. As a reward for state testing, I gave them the galaxy slime and they were thrilled. Every time the class does something good, they are working towards earning more desk pets. I gave each student a set of the 24 colored pencils and they were elated! That's the one art supply they didn't have. The coloring sheets are a stress reliever when we have to sit 6 feet apart and quietly work.
My class cheered and yelled when I showed them all the items we received. They were incredibly grateful. They keep saying "Thank you Mrs. Sheehan" and I keep telling them that generous people like you are the reason for the awesome supplies we have, I only drafted up a project.
So I will continue to use these supplies as motivators in my classroom. I will reward the students that follow all the COVID protocols, since this is difficult. These fun items are so motivating to my students. Thank you for making our transition to in person learning such a smooth one.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Sheehan

Funded Jul 25, 2019Thank you so much for the wonderful books (and flexible seating) for my classroom! It's so nice for my students to see their faces and cultures reflected in the classroom books. When we read these books, we are learning about so many different cultures. During the reading, students share information about their home countries and we learn how similar we are even though we're all from different places.
While we're reading, students feel safe asking questions and sharing information about their countries. These books have been a springboard for classroom discussions, which is wonderful because my English Language Learners need to practice their English speaking skills. We also practice prediction skills, using prior knowledge and using pictures to help with comprehension.
I have a wide variety of English learners in my classroom, and some of my higher students have enjoyed reading the new books for my classroom. From them I hear a lot of "Miss, miss, this is what it looked like in my country!"”
