  • We Can't Swim Without Suits

    Funded Jan 13, 2018

This was a very nice surprise this morning to see a fully funded project! My girls have worked very hard this past year, despite all of the hardships they face in their daily lives. I am excited that I will not have to turn any girls away because they cannot afford to buy their own swim suits or goggles. Thank you for allowing us to continue to be successful!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Messerschmidt

  • Just Keep Swimming

    Funded Jul 12, 2017

Thank you for your generous donation to my women's swim team! I ordered a few necessities for our pool, the first being a whiteboard. The current whiteboard at the the pool is bent in the middle and too far away for the girls to see. I am excited to be able to write my girl's sets in a place that they can see it!

I also asked for some stretch cords to mount on the wall. These cords will be used for pre-hab to keep my girls' backs and shoulders healthy as we continue to do hard work during the season. I also asked for equipment bags, which will help streamline our pre-practice procedures and save valuable time and equipment.

We appreciate your help making our pool a nice looking, efficient, safe place to be!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Messerschmidt

  • Comfort for Newcomers

    Funded Jul 24, 2017

My students love their new materials! We have been using the stools at my U-shaped table, which is used when the kids come up to me during small-group lessons. For my EL students, that is generally based around Vocabulary. These stools are the perfect height for my table and are especially helpful because they make the kids use their core when they are sitting on them.

The lap desks are awesome because the kids can manage them themselves. They know where they are and how to put them away themselves, which is especially important for EL students because they need that independence.

    Thank you again!”

    Mrs. Messerschmidt

  • Help My EL Kids Acclimate to U.S. Schools!

    Funded Jul 12, 2017

Thank you for donating to my classroom! I am excited for my new students to come in and be able to use our new materials in a language-centered classroom. My kids will be able to use these materials to work with each other and gain knowledge and language all at the same time!

My students will be able to use critical thinking and develop basic vocabulary skills by sorting things that belong together. Students will have new spaces to work together and new spaces to display vocabulary. We appreciate your generous donation!”

Students have been very respectful of these new materials and have been using them with great care and respect. Students have been practicing working with other students, which has improved my classroom community. We appreciate your generous donation that is making us more successful!”

  • Teach Me How to STEM

    Funded Dec 12, 2016

My students have used these materials as part of our math and science centers. Students are practicing skills such as writing numbers, recognizing numbers, understanding addition, understanding subtraction, and all of the math skills in between. Students have also been learning about science concepts like life cycles, living vs. nonliving, and how plants grow. Students have been able to use concrete materials to understand abstract concepts, which has been extremely helpful.

  • Smart Pencils for Smart Kids

    Funded Nov 29, 2016

Thank you so much for your generous donations to my classroom! The pencils have been very well-received by my students. The pencils work with the cards to read the questions and provide immediate feedback as to whether or not students are answering correctly or not. I am lucky that these materials allow me to differentiate for my students. My higher kids can work on something on their own level, while my lower kids can do the same thing. These materials cover literacy, math, vocabulary words, and positional words. We very much appreciate your donation!”

  • Empowering Students Through Art, Music and Writing

    Funded Jun 23, 2016

I am so excited to be able to give my students the opportunity to use art to learn literacy skills, math and writing. Currently, my students love to draw, but they do not know how to draw things. The drawing books I purchased give the students help drawing things they see in every day life, but it breaks it down into simple shapes, which include easy to follow directions.

My students will also be able to listen to music and dance while learning content. My students will learn colors, shapes, sight words, alphabet letters and sounds, and numbers in this way. My students will strengthen these concepts by using play-doh and play-doh tools, which will allow them to have fun while learning and developing fine motor skills.

My students will be able to take their newly-developed art skills to draw what they are thinking to express themselves through writing. My students are first taught that their pictures tell a story. They will then add words as they get more competent with literacy skills. I am very excited to see what my students will be able to produce with newfound skills and confidence because of these materials.”

  • Phonemic Awareness Software

    Funded Apr 8, 2016

Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. We are very grateful! I am amazed at how much computer games have helped my students practice skills we have been teaching in class. I am also surprised because these games have helped them work on fine motor skills using a mouse, both ELA and math skills, and vocabulary. Most of the games read the pictures to the kids, which is very helpful for my kids that do not come to school with a large vocabulary.

I am excited to see how these games will help us throughout the entire school year. I am anticipating the students' will know their skills better and be able to apply them and make connections. We appreciate it!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Messerschmidt

Some of my students' homes lack technology. However, my students achievement tests are computer based. Most of my students lack computer skills. Unfortunately, the only access to computers my students get at school is when we visit the computer lab for 20 minutes on Mondays. I wish we could visit more, but that is the only exposure my students get to computers.
