  • Power Up Learning with Kagan Strategies!

    Funded Jun 15, 2023

Many of my students have had traumatic experiences. Incorporating a coloring poster in my room has helped them calm down when their emotions become too much. In addition, the large coloring poster is a group activity they can do to build social skills.

My class has also enjoyed the Kagan Class building book. The activities had helped us create a family feeling in the room. The activities have helped students learn to work together as a team and deepen their relationships.

I really appreciate your donations to our classroom!”

  • Healthy Snacks for Hungry Kids!

    Funded Oct 18, 2022

Thank you so much for providing healthy snack for my students. They were so excited when the boxes came in! These snacks help them focus on learning while they wait for our late lunch time of 12:59. In addition, this introduced them to healthier food options. So many of them only have access to low fiber/low protein snack options at home. They think eating a fruit roll-up will make them not hungry. Having healthier snacks available helps me teach them about nutrition. They really don't know how to fuel their bodies so they feel better.”

  • Puzzle It Out for Progress!

    Funded Jul 2, 2022

These puzzles and games have been a great addition to my classroom! One period a day I have a study/social skills class. When the students don't have work from other classes they need to do I have them work together on a puzzle of game. This gives me the opportunity to teach social skills and problem solving in the moment. Conflicts happen as the students work together and it presents the opportunity for me to talk them through the social skills needed to resolve those conflicts. In addition, the puzzles have helped my students learn persistence. Some of them said they couldn't do puzzles and gave up immediately. This gives me a tool to show them they can if they keep trying!!”

  • Healthy Snacks for Hungry Kids

    Funded Apr 22, 2022

Thank you so much for supporting my students! Most of the kids in my classroom live in poverty. They do not have access to much healthy food at home. These snacks keep their bellies full so they can learn.

Many of them tell me they just don't have enough food at home and they are constantly hungry. We have food pantries and soup kitchens in town, but these kids live in a rural area where someone would have to drive them several miles to get these services.

Without these donations, I was constantly buying snacks with my own money. I still do that on occasion, but this has saved me from doing it every time. Thank you so much for helping me support my students!”

  • Stand Up and Learn!

    Funded May 31, 2022

This rolling, standing desk has been a life saver!! I thought I would have the kids use it, but I have been using it to teach from. The reading curriculum I'm using this year requires direct instruction while projecting materials on the board. With this rolling desk, I can move around the room and monitor student work while teaching. Before I had to constantly walk back to my teacher materials across the room. Often, the students who struggle to pay attention got off task as I walked away to change what was projected or to look at my teacher materials. This desk has allowed me to keep kids on-task and learning for a greater portion of class. Thank you so much for providing this!”

  • Healthy Snacks to Keep Hungry Kids Learning!

    Funded Dec 31, 2021

When the snacks were delivered, the students could not believe that it was for them! They were so excited to have access to healthy snacks. So many come to school hungry. We offer free breakfast and lunch, but for growing teenagers it is often not enough or not appetizing. As a school where the majority of students qualify for free and reduced lunch, they often do not have enough food at home either. Access to a snack during the school day helps these kids stay focused so they can learn. Thank you for making a difference!”

  • Learn Around the World

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

I am not sure how I have taught so long without a globe in my classroom! I have always had a wall map, but this globe gives a much more realistic picture of the world. We can find places on the globe and look at where they are compared to us. Then, we look at the wall map for a more detailed view of the area. My students where missing so much of the big picture by just looking at a flat map. They did not realize some places are on the opposite side of the world from us. It makes north and south mean so much more. Thank you for providing this resource.”

  • Silence the Notifications!

    Funded Jul 20, 2021

These Faraday Bags have made a huge difference in the engagement of my students. Without the distraction of constant cell phone notifications, they are able to much better attend to the lessons each day. They did not want to use the bags at first, but quickly realized how much more they learn with limited distractions. I used to have students put their phones in a holder in a designated location. However, there was still constant buzzing from notifications coming in. These bags silence all of that without students having to power their phones off and back on each period. They are perfect!”

  • Personalize Intervention for Lifelong Readers

    Funded May 25, 2021

Thank you so much for providing a subscription to Reading Plus to my class! This program is already making a difference for my students. My seniors with learning disabilities have been using it for about 2 weeks. They started by taking a reading assessment on the Reading Plus website. This assigned them a reading comprehension and vocabulary grade level. Everyday they have been choosing reading selections customized for each of them based on the assessment. They have also been learning new vocabulary at their "just right" level. It is simply not possible for me to manually crunch all the data from a paper reading assessment in order to find reading and vocabulary selections for each individual student on their level. Reading Plus does that for me! One of my students have already increased his reading an entire grade level! This program is making a real difference in the lives of these teenagers.”

  • Wiggle While You Work!

    Funded May 9, 2021

My students love having these wiggle seats! These balance cushions provide an opportunity to move while working without disturbing others. They make any chair function similarly to an exercise ball. By sitting on one of these, students engage their core muscle while just sitting. In addition, students who complained about the chairs being too hard find them much more comfortable. Having access to these cushions removes one barrier to learning for my students. They can be more comfortable and focused which results in better learning! Thank you so much.”

Thank you for taking time to consider donating to my classroom! I teach awesome high schoolers with special needs in far southwestern Kentucky. We are a county school of just under 1,000 students in a town of 18,000. We are a rural area and many of my kids enjoy activities on Kentucky Lake which borders the east side of our county. Some plan to go to college, others are well on their way to learning a trade due to our amazing Area Technology Center that we share with nearby Murray City District, and some work with our employment specialist to get a job in the workforce right after graduation. More than half of our students are on free or reduced lunch. My students are working hard to close achievement gaps and would very much appreciate your donation to help them reach their learning goals!
