Fun in Fifth
Funded Mar 3, 2018My students are loving our new supplies! They love adding to their writing and other projects by drawing so all of the art supplies have been super helpful with that. My co-teacher and I have been loving the big Sharpies because the kids love when we make big colorful anchor charts. The headphones have been super helpful as they have been reviewing videos to prepare for their upcoming state exams.
We had a class meeting to introduce all of our new things and they were naturally very pumped. They couldn't believe that my friends would care enough to buy things for them. When they knew that other people believed in them, it helped them believe in themselves even more.
Thank you again for all of your support. We are so excited to finish out our year with awesome new things thanks to you!”

Movin' and Groovin' in Ms. K's Class
Funded Aug 12, 2016My students are having a wonderful time using their flexible seating. It has made for such a beautiful classroom environment. It enriches our classroom community because they feel like everything is theirs, not just one desk. They are learning the power of choice and how to make better ones. The students are also getting the opportunity to learn more about themselves and where and how they learn best.
Not only has the project had an incredible impact on my classroom, but students and teachers walk by and with admiration on a daily basis. They say how lucky we are and I agree. I am lucky to have friends and supporters that believe in me and know that I am doing what's best for my students. I feel that the impact is going to continue to reach beyond my classroom because other teachers can see how and why flexible seating works.”

For the Love of Listening (To Books)
Funded Aug 9, 2015I cannot begin to describe how excited my students were to walk into the first day of First Grade and realize that their class would be the only one in the school with 4 tablets! They knew we had to learn procedures and rules in order to make things fair, and they quickly did so! My students were SO excited to be able to listen to books and education materials that they now have access to because of your donations. When I told them that we have them because my friends donated money to my project, they told me "you have REALLY nice friends!"
My students use our tablets to access online databases that are full of resources for them to working on literacy skills. Fairfax County pays so much money for this access, but they don't provide us with the hardware and tools for the students to access them. We have super old computers that are super slow once we get them delivered. Our classroom hasn't even gotten them delivered yet. We usually only get two computers per classroom too. That's a lot of sharing when you have eighteen 6-year-olds. Plus, because I have 4, I've been able to take the time to work with small groups to let them get practice with logging on to the tablets. They get SO excited and are very much engaged in the learning activities.
Having these tablets brings so much fun to my classroom. While we value learning above all else, I firmly believe that First Grade is FUN and now we have tools to keep the learning fun. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. My precious students thank you as well. Your donation is helping me grow 21st Century Learners. Thank you for investing in our future and I look forward to keeping you updated to our progress!”
