iPad for iLearning!
Funded Jan 1, 2015Thank you so much for your kind donations that allowed my students to use an Ipad this school year. They were so grateful for this and could not believe that strangers did this for them. I think that honestly, this act of selflessness as almost as impressive as when we unwrapped the ipad. They could not believe that people they did not know wanted to make sure they had the materials needed in order to succeed.
We have used the ipad in many ways. The best way is to "trick" some of my struggling readers into using the various applications and games, including the simple dictionary application, to help assist them in their reading. Often, students just plow through the activity, not stopping to see if they understand it, but the games that we have downloaded and used actually force them to learn! They play but they don't realize that they are learning.
I am so grateful that you were so generous and we are so lucky to have people like you supporting public education. Thank you very much.”

Twisted : Help Students Straighten It All Out!
Funded Jul 9, 2011Thank you so much for the donation of these books to my classroom. My students are so excited to see these books. They could not believe that "strangers" sent them brand new books based on their lives. They have learned so much not about reading, but about the act of giving. They have now discussed ways they can "pass it forward" to continue to help others. These books allowed for not only such rich discussion and writing, but also raised their interest into the world of young adult literature. Many of them exclaimed, "this is the first book I've ever read!" That means the world to me and I can not thank you enough.”

Funded Nov 18, 2010Thank you so much for giving my students the chance to read this incredible novel. Students had read the first of this series, Chains, and were eager to continue the story. It lead to incredible discussions on identity and conflict and how one's identity is changed through their actions. Students were also able to learn about an important time in American History and completed research projects to extend their learning. Students were well served by this incredible book and you made it possible. I am very grateful!”

Funded Nov 7, 2010Thank you so much for the wonderful gift of reading that you have given to my students. They are beyond lucky that selfless, giving people like you realize the importance of education and value what they learn. I am so grateful that we will be able to easily continue an extremely important discussion of the Holocaust with this novel. We as a society must never forget the past and must apply what we learn for the future, in the hopes that it is never, ever repeated. My students are future leaders who will have important decisions in their hands and they will definitely need to have lessons like this in their knowledge base. Thank you so much.”

Interacting with Text
Funded Jul 23, 2010Words can not express how grateful I am for your donation to my classroom. Walter Dean Myers is a much loved author at my school. Students look up to him as an example of success and well written young adult literature. Students waited eagerly for this book because it was about the present. This book allowed an intense and realistic view of the war that is currently being fought. We also are going to use the upcoming holidays to host a drive for these soldiers and collect needed items to help them. Thank you so much for helping us!”

Complete Our Series With Mockingjay!
Funded Jul 23, 2010Words can not express how grateful I am for your donation to my classroom. This book will complete our trilogy of The Hunger Games. Students waited eagerly for this book and I have never seen the level of excitement about books before that they expressed for this particular title. They also could not believe that a "stranger" gave them these books. Your selfless donation enabled many students to be exposed to great young adult literature as well as the idea of giving. These students are paying it forward by keeping these books in great condition so that hundreds of future students can enjoy them. Thank you so much.”
