Supplemental Curriculum Materials
Funded Oct 18, 2013Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom. I received the package containing the Explore Math 2's curriculum and implemented it right away into my classroom. It's great because not only is it easy to read for my students, but it's colorful, current, and appropriate. Usually I had to photocopy work for the students, but with this program, I can print it directly from the CD so each child has their own colorful copy, which does make a big difference.
My students really enjoy using this program, because it teaches them about math in their everyday life. We started with how they use math at home, from reading a clock, to paying bills, to using coupons and reading a recipe. Next, we will discuss how they can use math at work.
The students are enjoying this program and since it is on their academic level, they are comfortable using it and they don't get frustrated with the work. The lesson plan layout it basic and repetitious, which is exactly what they need.”

Helping Students with Autism Improve Reading Comprehension
Funded Mar 20, 2013Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom. My students all have special needs ranging from Autism to Down Syndrome. Each one of them is so special and unique. Having just one reading program in my classroom makes it extremely difficult to teach to each of their needs. With your help, I was able to get two different reading supplementary materials that I can use with my students. The reading cards are really very useful, especially since the paraprofessionals in my classroom can use them one on one with the students. I am able to use the reading program with my students to meet their individualized needs, because I am able to assess them and find the perfect lesson to start on. On behalf of me and my students, thank you again.”

Yoga in the Classroom
Funded Mar 21, 2012Words cannot begin to express how thoughtful your generous donation was to my class. Since I have received the Yoga curriculum and mats this school year, I have used frequently with my students. I really enjoy having the opportunity to teach my students new techniques for relaxation and distressing. The students enjoy learning new moves and techniques, especially the downward dog and mountain pose. I often see them using the breathing exercises when they feel frustrated. It's also great for their physical therapy goals. The students love doing yoga in class and are starting to do these exercises at home as well. Once again, I am very thankful for your generous donation and support of special education in your community.”

Social Skills for Special Needs Students
Funded May 8, 2012Words cannot begin to express how thoughtful your generous donation was to my class. Since I have received the social skills curriculum and cards this school year, I have used them frequently with my students. It really works well during snack and lunch time, when the students usually have difficulty knowing what to say to each other. It has taught them how to start a conversation, stay on topic, and how to keep it going. I often see the students initiating conversations with others. This used to be a difficult task for many of them. Once again, I am very thankful for your generous donation and support of special education in your community.”

Cookbooks for a Life Skills Classroom
Funded Feb 16, 2012Words cannot begin to express how thoughtful your generous donation was to my class. Since I have received the "Cooking to Learn" curriculum earlier this school year, I have used frequently with my students. I really enjoy having the opportunity to choose meals or snacks out of the book and make it with the students. It is wonderful how there are pictures to go along with the directions, so the students with difficulty reading can still feel successful. Also, it's great how it incorporates reading and writing as well as cooking and following directions. The students love cooking in class and are starting to do more cooking at home as well. Once again, I am very thankful for your generous donation and support of special education in your community.”

Using Technology To Teach Special Needs Students
Funded Feb 5, 2012Words cannot express how thoughtful your generous donation was to my class. Since I have received the document projector earlier this school year, I have used it every day with my students. They have special needs and any modification I can use in the classroom assists with their learning. I really enjoy having the opportunity to just turn on my computer and have the exact worksheet projected onto the board. The students like the fact that I can write on the paper and they see it enlarged on the whiteboard.
Using the projector helps keep the students focused and also allows them to transfer material quicker and neater onto their papers. The students also enjoy playing "teacher" and using the document projector to show the other students work. Once again, I am very thankful for your generous donation and support of special education in your community.”
