  • Spring Into Books!

    Funded Apr 17, 2023

Having brand-new books to give away through our Little Free Library to any of our students or community members has an impact that can't really be measured easily, but it is easy to see that our students will have an improved love of literacy because of your generosity! This love of literacy will definitely lead them to improved academic performance, all because of you! I have a special after-school rewards program where I give prizes and snacks to students that show me that they are reading a book and I can proudly tell you that I regularly have 15 or more students come every single day. The impressive thing is that the great majority of these students have frequent discipline issues, but they put in the effort of staying after school, reading a book and getting their prize. They could choose to do other things that might get them in trouble, but they're choosing to engage in literacy. This will lead them to a better future, little by little, but it's all thanks to you!”

  • We Need Them All, Please. Markers, Notebooks, Whiteboards, …

    Funded Aug 29, 2017

Thank you so much for your tremendous generosity. We are so grateful you chose to contribute to our classroom. For many people, school supplies are such an easy part of back to school shopping. However, my students have anxiety about coming to school without necessary materials and standing out to their peers. We were able to begin this school year on the right track.

My students can now walk into their classroom to find all the necessary supplies on their desk, waiting for them to arrive. They were so excited about the fresh materials and new supplies. The new markers, notebooks, composition books, and more helped all students get into the groove for a new school year.

    Thank you again!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Davila

  • Making Science Come Alive in the Classroom!

    Funded Nov 24, 2016

Thank you so much for donating to my classroom! These books helped my students imagine and explore new science technologies and skills that are being discovered today. With the main character being a clone, I asked students to decided and defend ethically whether cloning should be legal or not. We had a class room debate after a few days of research, within groups students used their books and new found information to support their cloning thoughts. All together they loved the opportunity to learn in a new and exciting way.

Reading this book in my classroom took on many different forms over the past few weeks. Having a book for every student was such a help, this let some of my students read as they finished other work or in their free time. Some students were so in love with the book they rented or purchased their own copy so they could read ahead at home. Throughout the weeks of reading my favorite part was days that we had time to read as a class. With middle school students I rarely read aloud, but every time I gave students the option of 15 min read time or teacher read, they always voted to listen to me. One of my classes was very well behaved and we took the books outside into the grass. I read as the students followed along and we all enjoyed some sunshine. It was wonderful to have an activity that could easily be moved so that we could enjoy the outdoors as we learned.

One amazing thing about this book was seeing some of my students shine in new ways. It's no secret that some students hate reading. But this assignment let some succeed where they had not before in science. I was surprised when students asked if we would have time to read the sequel and I learned that some had downloaded the book on their phone so that they could read at night. It was encouraging to know that students really did read the book and gain something from it.

Altogether this was a wonderful experience and I can't wait to take what I have learned about teaching a book and use it for years to come. Thank you again for donating to my classroom!”

  • Geometric Gardening: Succulent Style

    Funded Nov 28, 2016

Thank you VERY much for the materials for our Geometric Gardening: Succulent Style Project. The students are in the final phases of the project right now and throughout the process have had the opportunities to collaborate with one another in the precise design process of making these designer gardens. They have also learned to use many tools both of ancient geometers and current computer based tools to create aesthetically pleasing products.

When we designed this project, we weren't sure of our exact audience for the gardens, but the students worked together to decide that they were beautiful and quality enough to sell them at a local public market. The sale hasn't taken place yet, but the products they are producing are already of an extremely high quality. This is all due to the donations of high quality materials that we received from donors choose!

The next steps for the students and these supplies are to sell some at the market, and also create an installation in our school of some of the beautiful hanging gardens they were able to create so that visitors, students, and teachers, can all see their beautiful work.”

  • Growing Minds While Growing Our Garden

    Funded Nov 28, 2016

Thank you for your generosity in helping equip our school with supplies to build our garden. We have incorporated the garden into our 6th grade earth science standards. The students have learned about soil types, soil analysis, drainage, Ph, and amendments. We created a garden club and planted the following crops: herbs such as cilantro and basil, carrots, broccoli, kale, and snap peas. We also planted some milkweed to attract butterflies. In an effort to promote water conservation, we devoted a bed to drought tolerant plants. We have begun to harvest the kale, broccoli and snap peas.

We also started a composting program. The 6th grade has started a green team which includes waste reduction, recycling and composting efforts. They are working hard to educate the school and even created a video to educate everyone on those procedures.

The 2nd graders are our garden buddies. My students paired up with a 2nd grade buddy to teach them about plant uses, parts of a plant, and food sources. They also did a fun scavenger hunt which utilized all their five senses in the garden. All the children love working outside with their hands and love seeing the results of their efforts.

My students have developed a sense of responsibility and have embraced the responsibility of being leaders on this project. They are proud of what they accomplished with your donation. We haven't had a chance to use the hydroponics kit and look forward to that very soon. We also look forward to planting some new crops in the spring. We are expanding our efforts with a builder's club where students will build a garden shed and perhaps a fence around the garden. Thank you again for making all this possible!”

  • Raised Vegetable Beds to Raise Hands-on Learning

    Funded May 25, 2016

As a school, we cannot thank you enough for funding such an amazing project that has helped increase learning in our school garden. Classrooms have been able to take ownership of their own raised bed and create a classroom garden that can be used to learning across the subject areas.

Many of our students do not have regular access to gardens, and with your funding, we have made this opportunity possible. It is heartwarming to see our students go out into the garden and light up with excitement when they see that what they've planted is growing.

The love for learning has increase, and so has student ownership! Thank you so much for choosing to donate to our amazing project. We are all forever grateful!”

  • Growing Kinders

    Funded Apr 30, 2016

On behalf of our entire Kindergarten team, I would like to thank you for funding our "Kinder Garden." My husband and I assembled it before the start of the school year, and students from each of our 9 classrooms began planting the first week of school. We grew green beans, zucchini, squash, peppers, jalapenos, tri-colored bell peppers, corn, and lettuce. Though some of the "crops" did not take off, several did and were ready to harvest for our Thanksgiving stew. The students loved watching the plants grow and loved taking home fresh veggies even more.

In the Spring, we will plant our Butterfly Garden and begin our unit on life cycles. My hope is to eventually expand the area to an outdoor learning area with STEM centers so that students can play and learn at the same time.

Thanks to your generosity, our Kindergarten team will benefit year after year from your donations.”

  • Help Us Grow Our Garden!

    Funded Apr 30, 2016

Hello! Thank you so much for your donation to our project! The tall planters have helped us grow and maintain our garden much easier! All of our students are able to participate fully, even those with mobility challenges. We have used one planter to grow basil, cilantro, oregano, lavender, and thyme. We then utilized the herbs in our cooking classes spicing up quesadillas and mini pizzas! We used another planter to grow flowers, groups of students switched off watering and weeding! We cannot thank you enough for your donation!”
