About United Independent School District

United Independent School District (UISD, or United), founded in 1961 with a commitment to provide innovative, quality, progressive education for students in Webb County, Texas, is a large, remote district on the border to Mexico, faced with a high growth rate of over 23,000 students in the past twenty-one years. It is the second-largest public school district in its region and the 26th largest in the state. United is approximately 2,448 square miles in size (larger than the state of Delaware) and includes about 75% of Webb County, most of Laredo, the cities of El Cenizo/Rio Bravo, and several unincorporated communities, including high poverty Colonias that often lack water/sewer/electricity services and paved streets. Despite the challenges presented by our demographics (76% Social Economic, 15,000 Emergent English Learners) and the size of our district, our commitment to providing meaningful and robust educational experiences for all our students is our priority.
