I cannot tell you how much your generous gift has meant to my kids. They had no idea that I submitted a project for books, so it would be a surprise for them if it were funded. When I shared that our classroom was receiving new books, I uncovered my back table that had them all laid out for them. They were over the moon, especially over the National Geographic books. They could also not get over that someone all the way from Washington State cared about providing our classroom with brand new books.
I had students write a thank you letter in their journal. Here are some comments that I thought you would enjoy:
- Thank you so much for donating books to our class. We have a very small bookshelf, and it's not even filled up. It's halfway. There is this book that I have been wanting to read since the movie came out. It's called "The Fault in Our Stars." I wanted to read the book before I watched the movie, so when you donated books to us, the whole class was happy! That was the nicest thing anyone from a different place has done to us. I hope you are happy that you donated books to us.
- Thank you for all the science books you gave us because we didn't have any before.
- I want to thank you for all the books you donated to us. That was an awesome gift. My favorites are the Harry Potter, Wolf Rescue, 125 Amazing Pets, all the Hunger Games, Divergent, and Doll Bones. I know that is a lot to say, but I LOVE to read. Thank you.
- Thank you for getting all these books for us! I will read most of them to show my appreciation for all you have given us. And the one with "125 Amazing Pets" I will read first.
- Thank you for the books especially "American Born Chinese." That book is gonna be great. I can't wait to read and check it out. Anonymous, thanks for the book you have a blessing coming your way.
- Thank you for giving us these wonderful books. These books will inspire more children to read and improve grades. I really appreciate that you didn't just get 1 book, but you got more than 1 series of books. I will enjoy reading these books and I think other kids will too.
These are just a few of the many appreciative kids that I have who fell in love with reading. As soon as the books hit the shelf ready to be checked out, the National Geographic books were gone, especially the "125 True Stories of Amazing Pets." I cannot tell you how satisfying it is to see these kids soak of reading and finding joy in it. This has definitely boosted my teaching and students' learning with how receptive they have become with reading and comprehension.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Cabrera
