  • Drama Production

    Funded Jan 4, 2016

When my students began their drama production they worked hard every day to practice their lines, build the set, paint the backdrops, and create music. We used the paints for the project to paint our backdrop and the set pieces used for Grandma's house. This was memorable because the students learned how to bring their ideas into fruition and take pride in their work. The students also learned that making mistakes with their lines was OK, and lead to many comical moments.

When they first saw the materials their eyes lit up with excitement. Getting actual costumes helped the students put themselves into their roles and actually feel like they were part of a real play. It helped add weight and importance to making this production important by having an actual woodman's ax and an actual red riding hood cape.

Drama was put on hold the following year, but we are bringing it back for the 2017-2018 school year. Going forward we would like to practice the same skills that made drama such a great experience the first time. Working on communication between the ideas of set crew and the actors. I want them take turns in each others roles so they can better understand each others difficulties. I would also like to work on better collaboration between the two groups so everyone is involved in both acting and building the set to make it a more integrated process and less divided between two groups.

Thank you for making this a wonderful experience for Eddyville Charter School.”

  • Math + Inventions = 3Doodler!

    Funded Apr 16, 2017

I want to thank you again for donating to our 3Doodler project. The students have been learning how to use the pens. There is a learning curve! We started by writing our names so we could get the feel of the pens and the speed that the plastic comes out of the pen. The students were so excited to use the 3Doodlers. Next we worked on projects in the 3Doodler idea book. The students were able to choose the project and colors they wanted to use. They were so excited when the finished. I know that I have some future 3D printers in my classroom. I can't even imagine what they will design and create for us in the future when they become adults. Thank you for helping to open the world of 3D printing to my students.”

  • Me and My Shadow

    Funded Jan 12, 2017

Thank you for being a part of this major project in my music class! There were many parts to this project including the shadow puppet stage (garment racks covered in tissue-type paper, a traditional puppet stage), supplies to make the puppets (skewers, black card stock, hole punches, tape), and the light source. (tracing lights and light bulbs) We are ready to start the exploratory portion of this project by figuring out the placement of the light source, size of puppets, and color/transparency of the puppet paper.

When one class walked in and saw all the materials, their eyes got big and wide smiles were on their faces. "What are we going to do?" They all were so excited to get started. They worked together trying out shadow-making with some puppets that I had made. I want them to have an idea of how everything works before we begin finding our stories and making the actual puppets. I have very tall windows in my room and we used that light source with one of the lamps. But I foresee us pulling the shades and using our lights in a very dark room. We discussed how the Chinese invented shadow puppetry and used fire as a light source.

This project will take several weeks and I can't wait to see the children explore, adjust, and perfect as they make decisions about their story/presentation! I can't fully explain the excitement level of my students! They are engaged and ready TO GO! Thank you for providing these SUPER COOL resources for this project. Your support made it al possible!”

  • Spring Break Surprise!

    Funded Mar 16, 2017

We did it! Yesterday we gave out a book to every student at our sweet, small school. Can you believe this project gave a book to 140 deserving students? After spreading out all the books in the cafeteria and inviting one class at a time to choose a book, it felt like we had just had the best day in the whole wide world! Thanks to your kindness and amazing generosity, I covered the tables in the cafeteria with books and let each student choose a book to take home to read over Spring Break. The comments when they were picking just warmed my heart! I never heard them talk about the books they had at home (because they don't have many). They couldn't believe they could keep the books at home and they didn't have to return them after break. The excitement was electric! I love seeing their enthusiasm and joy for reading. We all know reading unlocks everything in life. Your kindness has helped my sweet students take home books to read at home. This teacher is so happy and blessed beyond words! Thank you again for all your kindness!”

  • Learning Takes Place with Life Essentials!

    Funded Feb 14, 2017

My heart is full of gratitude for the things you have given not only my students, but all of the students that are in need in our school. Thank you so much! I purchased a bin to keep these winter clothes in. I have presented it to our counselor, principal, and secretary. They are more aware of the needs in our school. Now when a child needs a coat, jacket, gloves, or hat, we can provide that for them. There are also packs of girls and boys underwear and pants to be used as needed. There are occasions that we get a new student that is taken out of the home with very little. There are so many changes going on in their life at that moment. New family; new school; new friends. It can be frightening! Having a few new things to give them can ease their stress and let them know that at school they have a new group of people that really care. A child cannot focus and learn when they are worried, hurt, or stressed about other things. It is very difficult for them to think there is any importance in learning to read when they are worried about where their next meal might come from or if they have anything to wear. We need to make these connections with them and give them a reason to do better. Thank you so much for making this possible. It is huge, and we are incredibly appreciative of your help!”

  • Ballet is the Way! To Grow Your Mind Each Day!

    Funded Feb 1, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous support of my young dancers! The ballet teacher came today with all of the flair of a true ballet teacher. My young dancers were so excited to meet their ballet teacher, the excitement truly warmed my heart. My young dancers walked like they were dancers at ABT, I could not stop smiling at their reaction.

I always believe that experiences last longer then things. You have provided my young dancers with an experience that they will remember for a life time. I believe that this experience will be life changing for some of my young dancers, who I believe will continue to study dance and ballet for years to come. You have provided a seed from the great ballet tree, and I know that it will grow from where you planted it!! I am so truly grateful!”

  • Taking a Bite Out of 2016

    Funded Aug 21, 2016

It's almost spring and I can't describe the impact these tools have had on my year. They are some of my students FAVORITE things to utilize. The students reactions when they first saw the materials was indescribable.

These students wish we could do project/play based learning everyday because of these items. The type of learning that occurs just with a train set is really out of this world. It seems so simple but students are so enthralled with creating their own worlds. The imagination is one of the most amazing aspects of a first grader. They are able to come up with innovative ways of playing with these things that you wouldn't have ever imagined.

I appreciate so much that you all gave, almost 4 months ago, and we have used these amazing materials almost every day since receiving them. They give my classroom life, fun, and opportunity that I couldn't get without your generous donations. You are all amazing!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Bartolomeo
