Welcome to our DonorsChoose.org Community! This is specifically to help schools in the Bronx. We know that these schools are high poverty, underfunded, and need help!
As we all know, this school year has been like no other. I am an in-person classroom teacher in New York City. There have been multiple school building closures, leading to remote learning for all my students for large chunks of time. I had planned to bring this computer to school to further our learning, but ended up leaving it home to assist in the remote learning process.
Remote learning is challenging. Having this new computer at home has allowed me to join the remote classroom with state-of-the-art technology. I have been able to access the remote learning platforms without concern for lack of technology.
I am so grateful to all of you for making this possible. Remote learning was difficult – if not impossible – with my old computer. Hopefully, going forward, I will be able to bring this computer into the school building as we move back to all students learning in-person. I look forward to that time with excitement.”

Thank You for the support you gave toward this project. The students have been awe inspired by the journals and the literature, it has promoted discussion and an eagerness to participate. The students are currently using the journals in a self-esteem group and individual students have found them useful as they navigate the world of elementary school. One student has found valuable information about understanding the changes to her body and how this impacts her life. Her mother has been able to have discussions that she admits she was not prepared to have on her own without the support. The students eagerness to delve into topics and areas that they probably would not have been able to discuss without the books prompting has been helpful. It cannot be taboo to speak of something if it has already been written about. I cannot thank you enough for the support and the gift you have given these students.”

Thank you so much for your contribution to my classroom and my students. All of the materials from this project have been instrumental in getting the groups to where they are today. This past week we had our midterm, which is also a snapshot of their progression towards the AP Statistics Exam in May. All of the students are currently on track to earn at least a 3 which would qualify them to earn college credit.
The first things that the students were able to use were the multicolored pens. Some of my students had been with me last year in Precalculus and they were very excited to see the pens. They use them to organize their notes so they can go back and review while they are doing homework or studying. For those that were new to they system, they have told me that they have purchased more so they can use them in other classes as well. This small tool has helped my students learn the importance of organized thoughts and the relative ease with which it can be accomplished.
One of the greatest challenges of teaching an AP course for the first time is learning the rigor of the material. Additionally, it is nearly impossible to create high quality multiple choice questions. The Barron's Review Books have been invaluable in providing my students with authentic practice on the types of questions they will need to tackle in just a few months.
I can honestly say that without the materials you provided my class would not be where it is today. My students' notes wouldn't be as consistent and their practice wouldn't be as effective. Thank you so much for what you have provided my students. I know that they will make you proud on May 9th when they sit for their exam and years down the line when they take the skills they are learning and apply them to a variety of careers.”

Thank you so much for donating to my classroom materials project. It was amazing to see the faces on my little first graders. Thanks to you, all my children are getting so much more out of our Reading and Writing Workshops. The materials are making my students so enthusiastic during our lessons. Just yesterday when we were using our sequence cards one of my students who normally exhibits academic challenges, was so excited because she was able to apply the skill to one of the stories we were reading. Not only are my children getting so much more out of their learning but I enjoy observing them learn as well. Donor's Choose has made a tremendous difference in my students' lives as well as my own. Thank you again for your generosity.”
I utilized this laptop within minutes of its arrival at my school. It has already made teaching so much easier and less frustrating for both myself and all my students. The old laptop I had to use was very slow and required a lot of patience from all who used it. It constantly crashed and many items would not load correctly. The instant I switched to this laptop, it has been smooth sailing.
Having technology is essential in education today and this laptop is a fundamental component of incorporating it in the classroom. Now I am able to show videos, play audio, show pictures and create interactive lessons using my Smart Board. Already this week, I have brought them to the New York Philharmonic, by showing them excerpts of their concert.
On behalf of myself and my 500 students this year, we thank you very much. Your generosity has not gone unnoticed. Thank you for supporting music education, and realizing the importance it has on the lives of our children.”

I appreciate your donations to my class. Dealing with students with special needs in a high need area can be very challenging. Your donations as little as it may seem helps out a great deal. My students need structure and daily routines and your generosity has assisted with that. My students having sharpened pencils every day in the same place gives them the structure and security that they are prepared even if they did not travel with one. Having the privacy blocker allows them to block out many of the distractions they fight to ignore.”

Thank you so much for your contributions that helped my classroom procure two iPad minis. My students were excited to see the iPads when they finally came, and we have been using them for different aspects of the lessons to help enhance their learning and demonstration of knowledge. Thanks to you, we have been able to incorporate more visual and interactive learning into the classroom.
More specifically, my students have been using the iPads to type and publish their classroom essays. They started out by publishing memoirs on the blog using the iPads and, soon afterward, were able to publish their thematic essays based on the novel "The Outsiders". Additionally, my students have been able to use the iPads for filming videos to serve as companions to the essays. Some students who need to improve their reading levels have even used iPad applications for vocabulary improvement.
Because of your help, I have noticed more enthusiasm for reading and writing throughout my classes. Students look forward to the chance to write an essay so they can use the technology to publish. When they seen their products online, they are proud of their work and can't wait for their next chance to repeat the process. You have helped to spark a sense of accomplishment in my seventh and eighth grade students. Thank you so much for your help.”
Thank you so much for donating so many art supplies to my students.
My students have made flip books with the supplies and used the glitter glue for a poster project. The pink glitter was an especially big hit. We also used the glue sticks to make collages on community (sorry, I forgot take pictures for this one!). Next semester, the supplies will come in especially handy when they produce their Shakespeare projects. The art supplies you donated helped my students' work seem more polished (and fun).
Thank you again for your kindness.”

I asked for, and received a listening center and recorded books. I am writing now to let you know that the listening center is a big hit with the children! Students are able to listen as they read the books your generous donations made possible.
English language learners, as well as struggling readers are eager to listen to stories as they point to the words on the page. The center, along with the recorded books, have helped to level the playing field because all listeners can respond to the text and talk about characters.
Thanks to you, our reading time is more fun, and learning is much more accessible to every student.”
My students were so excited to open the package on the day that the supplies arrived.
It was amazing to see how excited they were when I told them that people who they had never met decided to give us these items. They cheered and exclaimed, "WOW!" when I opened the box and showed them the carpet squares, book boxes and easel. It was clear how infrequently they receive unannounced gifts for themselves. I wish I had captured the moment on camera because they truly showed their genuine appreciation for your donation.
My students have been using the book boxes, easel and carpet squares DAILY. During every lesson, they sit on the their own numbered carpet squares so they all have their own place. The size of these squares also allows students to move them to the cafeteria for small group work as well. We use the easel throughout the day for morning meeting, phonics, and demonstrating the work that they should do at their desks. The book boxes organize their leveled books that they read during reading.
Without your support, my classroom and lessons would not be complete and my students would not be expressing their ability to their full potential. They are learning and growing every day with the resources you have donated.
Thank you again for your support. You have made a HUGE difference in my students' lives!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Meagher
