Funded Nov 30, 2018Thank you so much for supporting my wonderful class! I know that my students will be so excited to open and dive into all of the new books purchased by your generous contribution. For all kids, having access to engaging quality books can bolster a lifelong love of reading. When I was their age, my grandma bought me a box set of the Babysitter's Club series. Reading that series sparked a joy of reading that I hope to pass on to my students. I greatly appreciate your donation to this project, especially during this busy holiday season. Keep your eye out for some pictures and thank you cards from my students as they grow as readers!”

Funded Aug 10, 2016Dear Generous Donors,
It has been several months since my wonderful class of students received their brand new Chromebooks and they are being used in full force! As I mentioned in my initial post, many of my students have unstable home lives or have experienced trauma at a young age. This affects them deeply in all areas of their lives. However, the classroom is a safe place for them to learn, make mistakes, and develop character. The Chromebooks that your donations purchased have spurred a new, intense desire in my students to create and explore.
The computers have been used in all areas of our school day. In math, students develop their basic math skills on interactive websites such as XtraMath and Khan Academy. They cannot wait for their turn to practice their multiplication facts or discover key concepts on the Chromebooks. Likewise, my scholars have been able to access reading websites like MobyMax to strengthen their reading comprehension. As we begin our information reading unit, the Chromebooks will be excellent resources for them to research articles and online sources. Additionally, they have drafted, edited, revised, and published multiple writing pieces using Google Docs. In some of the pictures, you can see small groups of students completing a virtual science lab.
Not only have the Chromebooks expanded my students' access to educational resources, the technology has also helped develop their sense of responsibility. After first receiving the computers, three of my more challenging students asked if they could be the "technology masters." They independently learned the in's and out's of the Chromebooks, created class technology rules, and offered to help students when they need it. As you can see, your generous donation has already impacted my classroom in many ways and I know that there is so much more to come. Thank you again and know that you are making a difference in the lives of 22 incredible students and one happy teacher!”
