My Project

I teach 6th grade at a Title I school, and thanks to federal education cuts and a large school district budget deficit, it will be a struggle this coming school year to provide my students with basic supplies like pencils, calculators, and work folders.

Having enough supplies to hand out during class allows students to focus on their work, rather than on whether or not they have the tools to complete the work.

Without textbooks or a cohesive curriculum, I discovered that giving each student a sturdy plastic two-pocket folder (color-coded for each class!) works well to corral all of their class notes (color-coded for each standard) and work-in-progress, hence the request for the folders and the colored copy paper. The anchor chart paper is used for group projects and to post large versions of class notes, and the calculators are for when I want my students to be off of their Chromebooks.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
