  • Getting Creative with Cricut Continued...

    Funded Dec 6, 2019

Having this Cricut has added so much to our classroom. These past few years have been very unusual and over the past year things have started to get back to normal. With the class returning to 'normal', the Cricut has provide colorful bulletin board titles, name tags, and manipulatives. I am excited to continue to use the Cricut this upcoming year and going forward. I can wait to explore and learn more about things that can be done with the Cricut. It has made creating things for the classroom and learning so much more quick, fun, and easy.”

  • We're Going to Carnegie Hall!

    Funded Oct 26, 2018

Greetings and thank you to all who donated towards this project. The 4th-grade students who attended the concert got a lot from the experience of going to a live orchestral concert. The highlight of the concert was the moments when the students go to sing and play along with the orchestra, especially the songs that they liked!

We were able to extend learning in the classroom by practicing the songs for the concert. The parents had the opportunity to come to the school (pre-COVID) and see their children perform and demonstrate what they learned during music class.

This group of 4th-grade students now have moved on to middle school. I am sure that the students were able to take the memories of the concert along with them as they have transitioned to higher learning. Thanks so much again to those who donated funds to this project!”

    With gratitude,

  • 4th Grade Engineers

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

Thank you for gifting this to my students and I. We are grateful for your donations and are excited to use these once we start our simple and complex machines unit. These kits will allow my students to explore and have hands on experience with simple and complex machines. The hands on exploration and activities will ensure that my students will grasp the concept of simple and complex machines and understand how they impact every day life. I can't wait to have them begin exploring and building things using the kits!”

  • Art Supplies to Make Art Portfolios for High School Applications

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

Thank you for your generous donation of wonderful art supplies! Our fantastic students adored the new art materials. They are young artists who are aspiring to get into the art high schools of New York City!

Using your donation to purchase supplies for the high school portfolio preparation class, allowed students who have amazing drawing skills to have access to top quality materials for their educational purpose. We meet during the students' lunch period. Our first project was a still life drawing study. We used fake plants to draw from observation, and students got to choose what fabric to use for their display, in order to enhance the design of their drawings. Hosting this portfolio class allows for my students to hone their skills and take the time they need to build up their observational and artistic abilities. When I took out the color pencils students' were amazed at the variety of color and very thankful to have the opportunity to use such nice materials. They are looking forward to the next assignment, which will be acrylic painting.”

  • Creative And Critical Thinking Through Stem

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

Pre-k 105 is at a loss for words! We are so thankful for your kind and generous donations that are helping us become creative and critical thinkers. The children were so excited to see the new STEM station shelf. They were even more surprised when they saw all of the learning games that came with it!

Center Time has not been the same since we recieved the Mobile Stem Station. The children are so excited to work at the STEM station each day. Most days, the children select to work in this center first. Not only are the children learning problem solving by using the materials, they are

also problem solving with how to take turns and share the wonderful games in the center. So far, the children are learning trial and error by creating different ramps. They are also learning about magnets and metals by using the magnetic fishing game. The children are using vocabulary like, force, magnetic, gears, ramp and tilt. Their language skills are growing.

Pre-k 105 is so excited to use all of the games that came with the station. This week we will be using The Three Billy Goats Gruff stem game to build and create different types of bridges. We are excited to combine literacy, math and science as we look more closely at the story. Thank you all so very much for your donations. Your donations have made school and learning so much fun for Pre-k 105! Thank you!”

  • Back to Basics!

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

Thank you for your generosity and kindness! My students are extremely appreciative of the new furniture and materials now in our classroom. Specifically, when we work in groups the stools are a favorite. Students are able to now sit comfortably during group work and participate in the lesson and easily share their thinking with their peers. In addition to group work, it is easier for students to use stools when their computers are charging as it takes up less space than our chairs.

Furthermore, we have already put the Post-it notes to use as well. Students have been using them during activities such as our gallery walks. The purpose of gallery walks is to display student strategies used to answer a task. Students then analyze these strategies, discuss how they connect to the ask and commit to using the strategy in the future. Currently, we are applying our knowledge of fractions to making sense of division of fractions. Students are exploring how whole numbers can be divided by a fraction using models and a number line rather than computation. In doing so, students learn the conceptual understanding of division of fractions.

In closing, students worrying about not having a pencil for class is no longer a concern. Students now have a routine of borrowing a pencil when needed and place their energy on learning. My students have taken great care of our new materials and are eager to grow as learners each minute of everyday!”

  • Professional Sound Equipment

    Funded Nov 12, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous contributions. Our new soundboard has allowed us the opportunity to make the most of large speakers that were graciously gifted to our school last year. Our school auditorium now has a sound system that is worthy of our great students.

The sound board has already been used in our annual Holiday show, as well as our African American History show (a tribute to Motown), and for a recent visit by The Humble Heroes, a group of NYC public servants who came dressed as figures such as Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. You can see pictures of that visit as part of this thank you page.

Thank you once again. Because of your donations, 811X will have a professional sound system for years to come.”

  • BioBus Visit for Science Exploration

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donations. My students had a blast on the BioBus. They were taught how to use their high-powered microscopes with large screens so that everyone could see. They were taught different types of biology and guided them through asking questions about what they saw through the microscopes. I think this sparked their own curiosity and empowered them to feel like they could be biologists too. What was particularly wonderful was that one of the scientists were bilingual and taught my exclusively Spanish-speaking students entirely in Spanish. I'd never seen them so engaged and it was truly heartwarming to see them connect with science in a way that I struggle to help them do myself. Thank you so much for this opportunity!”
