  • Let's Start an Art Club for Children in Need

    Funded Dec 4, 2019

I am in awe! The kids have been asking for months when can we start art club. I can now tell them! Many of the kids I work with have little or no exposure to art. With your donation, they will utilize different materials and techniques to discover their strengths, build their confidence, and explore their emotions. They will benefit artistically and therapeutically from this art club! I cannot thank you enough.”

  • Online Access

    Funded Dec 30, 2018

This project has been a great success. Students felt that the headphones were soft, comfortable and fits perfectly on their ears. The students however preferred a variety of different colors. The boys particularly felt the headphones should have been blue or green- funny moment. The students as well felt the sound coming from the Avid headphones was better than their old headphones, thus allowing them to concentrate fully while listening to music, students' videos on www.flipgrid.com, www.getepic.com and www.i-ready.com. As soon as students are given time to work on their laptops, students often request the Avid headphones. At times, I have to assign headphones based on a reward system to avoid conflicts.”

  • Children and Basketballs Are Alike. See Why..

    Funded Nov 13, 2018

I can not thank you enough. Teaching in the Bronx you learn about what the students can and can not do, sports wise. There are not many fields so playing soccer, lacrosse, baseball/softball, and football at a young age is not feasible sometimes because they can't walk to the field. Where as you can play basketball at almost any park- or even get a basketball hoop for the house!

Now i'm sure you looked at the title and said "how could basketballs and children be alike?!" and i don't blame you! Basketballs come in all different sizes for the age the students are, and just like basketballs children come in all DIFFERENT shapes and sizes as well. There is a basketball out there for a specific student- it is on the teachers and coaches to find that basketball.

Some students need more visual so a basketball with hand prints on it showing where to put their hands really helps them. Sometimes students need a softer ball to start out with so they are not scared of the ball at first. Others are maybe very skilled so i may have them practice with a smaller ball to get some tricks down or the fundamental skills down at a faster rate.

All the different balls that were given to us are being used every time we have practice- which is usually once a week or sometimes before school some students come to practice. without you this would NOT be possible!!”

  • We Got The Beat

    Funded Nov 13, 2018

Thank you all so much in helping me get a bass drum for my band program. It is the one instrument that makes us feel complete as an ensemble. Although my school had some instruments already, they did not have many percussion instruments. I firmly believe that a good band has a solid heartbeat and the bass drum did just that.

When the students saw the bass drum, they were beyond excited. Most of them had never seen one before and all wanted to play it; percussionist or not. When the percussionists played it, the band finally understood what it meant to stay together as an ensemble. They would get really excited when the musical instruments played in time with the percussionists. My students had a much easier time playing together. The bass drum has impacted about 40 students in my program. Some of these students believed they had no musical talent but with some instruction, they felt like they served an important purpose to our music playing.

The next steps for my students is to grow my instrument inventory. For percussion in particular, I would like to get bell kits or small xylophones on stands for them to play on instead of putting them on desks. Percussion is a very popular section and I would like to give them the opportunity to play on quality instruments. I would also like to provide my students with crash cymbals to add to the band pieces that we play.

Thank you all so much for your contributions and helping me build an enriching band program for my students.”

  • I See Math Fluency in Your Future

    Funded Nov 27, 2018

This is a token of my gratitude for your generous donation and investment in our children. Number and Math talks have been a daily practice in our math instruction. Through our newly acquired Math Fluency Kit, we have been able to practice our mental math skills and we are improving more and more each and every day.

The students love this part of the math lesson now. They are able to talk and think about math in various ways. This allows for all of the different types of learners in the class to have a sense of accomplishment and success during math. Again, thank you so much for being a part of their motivation.”

  • Scientific ...

    Funded Dec 31, 2018

Thank you so much for helping my scholars have the opportunity to use Science materials as part of their science exploration. It is important as an educator to teach young ladies that science is an interesting field to explore. As of today we don't have enough woman in the field of Science. I want to help change that by helping spark my students interest in science. The first day the materials arrived they helped me set them up and said "I cant wait to do science." I was so excited that they were motivated with the help of your generous supplies. I build on that momentum and got the girls to explore diverse science topics. I am so grateful for all the support you have provided to my class.”

  • Youngest Scientists Eager to Discover Their World

    Funded Nov 13, 2018

Thank you! Tragically, funding for education is a tiny percentage of the federal budget. It leaves educators and families holding the short end of the stick. Of course we want our kids to grow and learn however the funding for materials is just not there. Thank goodness for your kindness and optimism. It makes our kids' growing and learning possible. They were so excited to set up a chain reaction. When they successfully directed the ball through a maze into the goal that they created, they jumped up and down cheering victoriously. Their eyes widened as they discovered their magnets moved the iron filings in their new Magic Window. Finally, when they discovered the What's That Sound Tubes, they giggled together. Thank you for giving my students these materials that teach but most importantly, thank you for letting our kids know that they matter.”

  • Ancient Egyptian Art: Rock With Us

    Funded Nov 13, 2018

Thank you all for supporting our classroom project on Egyptian Art. Your generosity provided interesting and exciting books with colorful images to give them a better understanding of the culture. My students were particularly interested in designing images for their rocks. Although it go a little messy, they enjoyed themselves and learned so much about different forms of communication They enjoyed using the stencils and papyrus paper to write secret messages. This project enabled my student to not only collaborate, but engage them in project-based learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Robinson
