My Students

My students are bright, engaged, creative thinkers who thrive in a school space that allows them to think critically and independently. My students attend a Title I school in Oakland, California with a school-wide free breakfast and lunch program. Many of my students come from families and communities that have experienced some form of trauma and often have difficulty coming to school. Our school has an increasing amount of newcomer families, which continue to make our school an amazing and diverse community where all are welcome.

My students are scientists, writers, dreamers, poets, musicians, athletes, dancers, readers, and mathematicians.

They want to succeed in school and it is my goal to provide them with the resources they need to do so.

My Project

Starting a new school year is often a time of excitement, asking questions, and coming together. This 2020-2021 school year is starting off differently than we have ever experienced. Due to the current crisis, we are now trying to bring our classrooms to our students. We know that there is no way to replicate the joys of being together in a classroom, but providing two third grade classes with take-home supplies, whiteboards and dry erase markers will help them continue to grow and learn even while at home. Ensuring our students have what they need will set each student up for success, and take one thing off of the very full plates of our families.

Our students will be in distance learning for the foreseeable future, and these materials will support them in engaging with hands-on learning, even while at home.

Our third graders are eager to get started together, and having these whiteboards and supplies ready will make sure that their learning doesn't just take place within a Chromebook screen. These materials will help in every subject area, and be a staple to our daily schedules together.
