My Students

My fourth grade students are just simply amazing and love to learn! Our school is located in an urban area and is designated as Title I where more than 80 percent of our students qualify for free and/or reduced-price lunch. And, like most schools and communities, our students and families have been greatly affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. Some of our parents are essential workers and have had their work hours cut, while others have had to deal with the loss of job which has greatly contributed to additional financial distress.

Despite the pandemic, my students know that through education they can make a difference and change the world in a positive way.

Since the stay at home order, my students have to gain subject matter knowledge through Distance Learning. This has presented a challenge for many of my students who are trying to learn at home; juggling to find a quiet place to learn.

In the midst of all of this, they are still eager to learn new things. My amazing students have been working diligently during instruction in our Zoom class as well as using Google Classroom and online platforms such as Khan Academy, Razkids, and Quill.

My Project

Nothing will stop me from making sure that my students are provided an opportunity to learn. The iPad Air selected for this project will keep the gateway of learning open. Since I am providing instruction through Zoom and my students are completing assignments through Google Classroom, the use of an iPad Air will allow me to record my daily lessons in English Language Arts and Math. It will also allow me to save as well as revisit and change notes which can be uploaded so that students can review them whenever they need additional support.

These recorded instructional sessions will not only bring a personal touch to teaching and learning, but will bring learning to life on the Google Classroom platform.

Students will have numerous opportunities to watch and learn from the videos as many times as necessary to close the achievement gap. Uploading notes created during instruction is also another way to further support learning for students especially when teaching writing through Google Docs and providing exemplars constructed by the students and myself.
