Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Pre-K class is comprised of 36 students. It is split into a morning class and an afternoon class. Our school is a Title I school, and most of my students live in a low income area and the majority of them live in non-English speaking households. They are all very eager to learn!

This is my third year teaching Pre-K and I absolutely love it.

I taught upper grade for 13 years and now that I'm teaching the younger students, I am amazed at how quick they are to learn and grasp new concepts. Unfortunately, there are always a few in the group who struggle to learn the basics. I would love to have Zoo-Phonics as part of my curriculum because it is a complete language arts program that integrates with all the other subjects. I feel that my teaching would be enhanced with this program and I would be able to reach all of my students regardless of their abilities.

My Project

I would be using Zoo-Phonics daily in the classroom. I would use it with both my morning and afternoon classes. This program has different components in it . It has lessons for reading, spelling, and writing. I hope that after I attend the workshop, I will be able to teach my students the Zoo-Phonics more effectively. I hope to learn new ways to reach those students that struggle learning their ABC's. Since this program uses a lot of body movements and is multisensorial, I hope to learn new teaching methods to help all my students learn. This in turn will help my students grasp letter recognition, sounds, and early writing skills. The classroom laminator and pouches will help me laminate the materials in Zoo-Phonics so that they will last for a long time.

Having Zoo-Phonics in my classroom would help me reach every student in the classroom.

It would be a great asset to have to help my students with reading, spelling and writing. Attending the workshop will also help me better implement the program in my classroom and will teach me new strategies to reach even the struggling students in my classroom!
