My Project

Hello, I am trying to create a "zen zone" for my self-contained students. I would like them to use this area for independent reading and if they need to take a break for a bit to help them get back on task. I will have other items in the zone as well. For example, some fidgets they can use, they will have a journal if they would like to write how they are feeling instead of talking about it and there will be some sort of art/coloring activity for them to do, if they choose.

I have a small class and this would work great in my classroom.

I have realized over the years teaching that if the students had a separate little area that they can use to take a brain break, they tend to refocus themselves and then transition back into the lesson calmer. The materials will make a difference because I want them to feel that they have their own space to take that "brain break" when they feel frustrated, upset, or angry. I would like the students to learn to self-regulate and find a coping mechanism that works for them to then be able to rejoin in the class.
