Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a school social worker, my office is a representation of who I am to the students. It is so important that students have a calming space to be able to work with other individuals on building social emotional skills. Often times when a student is pulled out of the classroom there is a negative connotation with that. However, with your help I can assure students that this is a place where they are respected and heard. Student voices is so important but when they do not have the skills to project it yet it can be daunting.
My goal is for my office to be welcoming and zen den where students feel comfort exuding from every corner!
I want my students to experience different centers in my office. For example, the timer will go in the calming corner along with the sensory toys and stress balls to help with regulating emotions. The play and sensory centers will have different tools such as play dough, puzzles, conversation card games, other games to help with socialization.
Other items requested will be used during sessions such as the notebooks and pencils for students to jot down their thoughts, laminator to laminate activities for students to use the play dough on or dry erase markers, and more!
Lastly, unfortunately many of our students when their feelings are heightened they cannot control how their body reacts and we often times find ourselves supporting students after they have had an accident. It would be great to be prepared and have under garments ready for those occasions.
