Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is the focal point of our community. Parents are involved, students are eager to learn, and the staff loves coming to work each day. Our school is located in the heart of Richmondtown. It welcomes students from New Dorp, Oakwood, Richmondtown, and Lighthouse Hill. We are a blended learning and hybrid model due to the pandemic. Most classes are ICT (Integrated Co Teaching) which means two teachers (one general education and one special education) in this classroom.

My Project

My students' mental health is a top priority as we transition back into another school year. From being a remote, blended, or in person student, they are finally returning to a classroom, full time. Though this is an exciting time, it could be very overwhelming for some students. I am requesting essential oils, a salt lamp, sensory toys and meditation chimes.

My goal is to use these resources to create a safe space for the students to go when they need a break from the rigorous classroom environment.

This will benefit all students and help them all reach their highest potentials in the least restricted environment.

Students will be able to can visit the Zen Den when they feel angry, sad, or just wiggly. This area will be a great addition to our classroom. The diffuser will help all students relax throughout the day and the fidget toys will benefit the students with special needs.
