My Students

My second graders are voracious readers! They love to read both fiction and nonfiction books. Their favorite characters include Pete the Cat, Fly Guy, Piggie and Elephant, and Mercy Watson. They also love to read about insects, space, and plants. My students are hungry bookworms! They are eager to learn and read about the world around them. My class is made up of general education students, children with special needs, and English as new language students.

My students love to be at school and are like little sponges, absorbing everything around them.

Their parents work long hours and usually do not see their children. The children are usually cared for by their grandparents or a family friend. Most of them do not have someone who speaks English at home. Thus, it is difficult for students to acquire the English language.

Due to financial hardships, my students do not have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities during the school year or summer.

My Project

"I am hungry!" That's what my second graders usually say during the school day. Our school day starts early at 8:15am and lunch is at 10:30am. My students are hungry by early afternoon. Our mornings are jammed packed with reading, writing, and math. As we transition from subject to subject, students constantly ask when is lunch time. Since we have an early lunch period, students are hungry before dismissal. I am asking for various snacks such as cookies, fruit snacks, crackers, goldfish, and chips for my students to snack on during the school day and to take home to snack on before they start their homework.

These healthy snacks will target hungry tummies, re-energize their bodies and help my second graders stay alert throughout the school day.

Just like adults, young children also need a snack to rejuvenate their brain cells during the long work day. Your donations to this project will allow me to provide nutritious snacks to re-energize students during the long work day.
