My Project
Our school serves mostly low-income households that come from different backgrounds. We always tell our students that they need food as fuel before they can be ready to learn in the classroom. However, some of our students struggle to find the time in their morning to fit in something as small as a granola bar either because of their commute to school or because of financial reasons
Our school strives to help our students become successful in the classroom.
We check in with students and give them the support that they need to get through a long day of learning. Most of the time, students need a small snack to help keep them going through a long school day and gain that energy boost. Snacks will also be an incentive and motivation to continue to do well in the classroom.
Additionally, our school divides lunch at 3 separate times during the day. Our younger students wait until almost the end of the school day to get that fuel to learn. Many of our students do not eat the school lunch and will go a day without eating until they can go home. Our school also does not provide an open-campus lunch so students are very limited to what they can eat in school. Having access to food storage and snacks readily available for our students will help improve their academic success in the classroom.
