My Students

"These gems have life in them: their colors speak, say what words fail of." George Eliot

I am fortunate to teach at a wonderful high school in Louisiana.

My students have been identified as gifted in art. Ours is a small school, with a big heart. My students are hard working, original, and hungry for new artistic experiences. Many of my students will consider majoring in art, if they go to college. It is my pleasure to share my love for art with these exceptional young people.

My Project

"Where did you get that necklace?" I hear that question almost every day. And my answer is always,"I made it." Besides my normal art teacher loves, like drawing and painting, jewelry making has become my passion. My art students never fail to ask me about my eclectic jewelry. They are fascinated by the materials and concepts. I would love to give my students the opportunity to create their own jewelry. To make jewelry, one must have a working knowledge of design and color theory. I instill these concepts in my students through various art projects, but jewelry making would open a new door to the application of these principles. The creation of jewelry promotes a calm, contemplative atmosphere. I feel my students could express themselves in a very unusual manner, through jewelry making, and I would encourage them to add found objects, like keys, charms, buttons, even bits of old art supplies! Through jewelry making, my students would learn a craft that could last a lifetime.

Here in Louisiana, our schools receive little or no funding for quality art materials.

My students are hard working, determined young artists, eager for new experiences. Most of my students cannot afford to buy art supplies, so we do without. Your donation will provide a meaningful artistic experience for my deserving students. To me, they are all "jewels", and I would love for them to create works that shine as brightly as their talents. Thank you for your consideration.
