Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every Wednesday, the session begins with physical and vocal warm ups. We talk about what life would be like without music. Boring! Then the children start singing.

We have a high percentage of students whose families are below the poverty line.

Six years ago, we lost our music teacher due to cuts in the NYC public schools budget. Yet, we continue to provide students with a music program through after school choir and guitar or modern band programs. At present, we have 40 members from the second grade to the fifth grade levels. Sometimes the choir represents the school to out-of-school invitations and performances. The students meet every Wednesday after school for an hour and fifteen minutes. Their recent performance was during the holidays, “Christmas Penguin.”

My Project

The last year’s AYV event was a huge success! Hence, this year we are going back for the second time at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. This is a large gathering of children's choirs, currently growing in attendance at 5000 children. The aim of this activity is to provide a music experience for children that they will benefit from and remember for the rest of their lives. Young Voices has introduced over one million children to live music in the past 17 years. We believe passionately in inspiring the next generation to find their love for music. All the music is specially selected and arranged to give the children the widest variety of songs to perform. It is also hoped that by providing a diverse range of musical styles, children will learn, enjoy, and gain a greater, fuller understanding of music. My students need bus transportation from school to Prudential center in New Jersey to join the American Young Voices in May 26, 2016.

This event is going to bring excitement in the lives of these kids.

They will become part of the largest children’s choir in the world and be actual performers in the show. In the end, they will have a greater appreciation of music.
