My Students

Young Scientists of today are the key to our future! Children are naturally curious and Science allows them to scientifically explore their world.

My school is a very small school in a rural area in Maryland.

Our school has a little more than 300 students. My students come from a variety of backgrounds. They are curious and excited about Science. I have to smile as they walk in the room asking, "What are we doing in Science today?". They are full of wonder and enthusiasm.

My Project

Through the use of project based learning, my students have developed good questionong skills. They use that knowledge to make claims about their findings using data as their evidence. Exploring the Newton's Laws of Motion, understanding electricity and space are concepts that they can apply to real world situations. STEM projects encourage students to find relationships among many disciplines and expand that knowledge to solve other problems. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics are essential tools for student success as well as success in the world. Scientific investigations allow students to "get their hands dirty" (so to speak), design and build their own inventions using the knowledge they have acquired. They test, analyze and revise until they succeed. These materials are vehicles for independent student thinking. The possibilities are endless.

This project is a step in moving my students forward and helping them develop and maintain a love for Science.

In addition to perserverence, students realize relationships and begin questioning..."What if..". Through the STEM process, they learn to solve problems as well as analyze and evaluate their solution. Revisions and modifications are a natural progression. These skills are some of the most valuable skills we can teach our children on the path to becoming 21st century learners.
