Help Mr. Dorn

My students make the choice to attend in an inner city high school in Missouri. On the whole, the school services students who are classified as "high poverty", including students who are recent immigrants from war-torn countries, English language learners, and students who work full time jobs themselves to help support their families. However, these classifications do not do these students the service they deserve. Despite the fact that most of my students face indescribable obstacles in their lives, they continually get up every morning to face these obstacles knowing that completing their high school education will empower their futures. In my classroom, these exceptional high school students learn physical science, biology, and advanced placement environmental science. Since my students have difficulty buying basic school supplies like folders and notebooks, I’ve simplified our class supplies down to a composition notebook. These notebooks serve as our "laboratory notebook" in all of my science classes. Each student receives a single half sheet of paper with all of the day’s activities printed on it. This procedure not only saves paper, but also on printing costs. In order to start on our first unit, my students need a printer so we can ensure we have all the copies of the activities every day. Needless to say, schools in urban areas have a difficult situation when it comes to funding. We have difficulty keeping our school’s one copier functional, let alone filled with paper. As a young teacher, my bank account is running on fumes as I need to buy other basic supplies for my classroom. Having a laser printer for our classroom will help ensure my students have the learning materials they need and deserve every day. With your help, my students will be provided a very basic necessity for their learning. When a copier is broken, students shouldn’t suffer. By providing our students with basic learning tools, like a printer for our classroom, you can ensure that each student will be able to excel in a difficult situation and enable them to change their life paths.
