This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Hi There! My first graders are doing a unit study about birds! In this unit, students will grow as researchers and use the web, books, and mentor texts to help them learn what makes a bird a bird! To deepen their understanding, and provide opportunities for more hands on learning, I am asking for tweezers, binoculars, feathers, and clipboards.

My curious students thrive in a classroom with visuals and hands on crafts and experiments, and I believe these requested tools will help me make this unit more engaging for them!

With the tweezers and bowls, my students will conduct an experiment about the different kinds of bird beaks, and they will learn how animals adapt to their environments. With the binoculars and clipboards, students will go on nature walks and will have the tools to help them closely observe birds and record their finding. Finally, at the end of the unit students will design a model of their own bird and describe their bird's features. The feathers will come in handy for them during the crafting stage of this end of unit project.

I truly appreciate any donations that can help me create a more kinesthetic learning environment for my first graders! Thank you!
