My Students

I teach high needs students in a low income community. Although my students have the odds stacked against them, they always impress me with their willingness to learn. They come into the art room every week full of questions and energy about the projects we’ll be working on.

Through art, I am able to show them that even though they may not perform well in other subjects, that doesn’t mean they aren’t worthy.

Art provides an escape from the mundane coursework that they are used to everyday. It also has been proven to increase performance in other subject areas as well.

My Project

The table top easels will be used for my kids to place their canvases on while painting. By using easels, students will be able to more proficiency use their brushes while applying paint. My students have never use easels before, so this will be both a new and exciting experience for them. It is important to introduce children to different art techniques at a young age, that way they will be better prepared going forward. Before the end of the year, I hope to produce an art show displaying student paintings that they created using the easels.
