Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school strives to find the leaders in each student. The students in my upcoming 2nd grade class strive for greatness. Of those 30, some are English Language Learners, students with disabilities, ranging from physical to academic, and from various cultural backgrounds. They all have a think win-win attitude and will do their personal best to contribute to the classroom community.

My Project

I will use a variety of culturally diverse picture books to open up discussions as we explore topics of stereotypes and biases as they relate to our social justice units and beyond. The non-fiction and fiction books in the classroom library will include both people who look like the students (mirrors) and those who do not (windows). These books will help my students explore both who they are themselves and help them understand the world around them. This will encourage students to gain a broader world view and increase empathy.
