This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have the pleasure of teaching Science to about 175 4th and 5th-grade students in a low socio-economic community. This year, I want to make the Amplify unit of Modeling Matter more engaging. Students have the role of food scientists as they investigate how different ingredients mix or do not mix. During this unit students need to taste various mixture of ingredients. I believe that having students measure ingredients to make recipes, and taste different items will give them more of an understanding of what some food scientists do. Students can make variation with recipes when they make food items like corn bread, muffins, cookies or even pizza.This hands-on approach might open my students to wanting to have a career in the food industry or as a food scientist.

I will need supplies like an oven, aprons, mixing bowl, hats, parchment paper, and aluminum foil to make this teaching approach possible.
