My Students

My students have taught me the simplicity of life. My classroom is a group of high school students with moderate to severe disabilities. The disabilities range from intellectual, physical, and Autism. All of my students need extra supports to access their academics and social/adaptive skills. This project will also benefit younger students that also have moderate to severe disabilities. The grade levels range from 3rd grade to 12th grade. the disabilities range from intellectual disabilities, Autism, Down Syndrome, and physical impairments. All ages of students need extra focus on Daily Living as well as fine/gross motor skills.

We also have a strong focus on skills that will benefit my students' life after they leave school, for instance, in the areas of work, schooling, life in the community, and daily living skills.

My Project

My students teach me more than I ever could! They teach me how to persevere through many challenges and work hard for myself. They have a different outlook on life and truly want to be as independent as possible. As teenagers they are looking forward to their new journeys after high school. Many of my students will need continue support for their activities of daily living, but our inspired to take care of themselves as much as they can.

Everyday activities, such as cooking and cleaning, seem like chores to me, but for my students they see it as a time to explore!
