This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How do you foster an artistic sensibility in third, fourth and fifth graders ? You teach them to think like an artist ! I would love for my students to start keeping a visual diary of their ideas and experiences.

My students are living in one of the highest poverty and need districts in the Bronx.

We are part of an amazing elementary school that sees the immense potentional in each student. My students are creative, willing to learn but are lacking the financial resources to buy sketchbooks.

My Project

At this age one of the greatest obstacles in art is taking a risk. My students need a place where they can work out their ideas and sketch. These sketchbooks will become a forum for students to connect their personal experiences with their art. These sketchbooks will become a visual diary of their experiences and life. We will sect in class and students will be able to take their sketchbooks home to continue their skill building and share their art with their families.

The greatest skill I hope to instill in my students is the gift of thinking like an artist.

These sketchbooks will help my students to learn to document their ideas and thoughts. Help my students experience this by providing them their first sketchbook. This can't happen with out your support.
