Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Our students come from many different countries, have diverse backgrounds, and vary in their levels of experiences - personally and educationally. A large percentage of our students live at or below the poverty level and are at-risk academically and emotionally.
Our district is a large urban school district that serves a racially and economically diverse population of students.
We see in all our students a desire to learn, to be active and engaged in their learning, and to be creative in their responses to their learning.
My Project
Writing is usually the last language domain to develop in English Language Learners. Many of the students I support start their English language development in the intermediate grades after many of the foundational writing skills have been systematically taught. Many of these students struggle to have their writing look and sound like their English speaking peers.
Effective writing is so important for communication.
This program would give me the content and strategies to meet my students at their level of need and move them forward - no matter their level of language development. This program also encourages development of oral and academic vocabulary. It helps students stay actively involved in their education and places an emphasis on relating and organizing information. My students have expressed that they want to become better writers and I want to give them that opportunity by using this evidence based program.
