Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a group of "at promise" students who were pre-identified because they struggle in multiple areas, academics, attendance, and behavior. This program and class is designed to provide students with academic and social emotional support to be successful in high school and provide them with opportunities to develop their leadership skills.

My students tend to exhibit extrinsic motivation and tend to work harder if there are incentives and knowing that they will be rewarded with something tangible which is why I always look for opportunities to reward and celebrate their accomplishments.

In addition to celebrating my own students, I help with school-wide incentives and celebrations, one of which is Student of the Month lunches. 100+ nominated students enjoy a fancy catered lunch with their teacher, take a picture with them, and receive a certificate. Decor varies by month or holiday. The theme for the upcoming celebration is "You Shine Bright. " The lights will be used to decorate for this and future celebrations. I will write the student names on the stars and display them on sky-like bulletin board paper , placed on the walls as decor. The phone chargers and post its will be used as rewards and prizes and the gift card will be used to buy snacks and food items needed for the lunch celebration. Thank you for your consideration.
