Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a diverse group who are excited to learn about Aquatic Science. With the majority of our students coming from low-income households (over 80% free and reduced-priced lunch), they have not had opportunities many take for granted. However, their curiosity and desire to know knows no bounds, and they actively seek new educational experiences.

These students need a space where it's okay to be curious, to seek and find answers, and to explore the natural world.

Along with trips to aquariums and educational facilities so students can actually SEE the creatures and environments they are learning about, I am attempting to generate as many hands on activities as possible.

With a high number of special education and English as Second Language learners in my class, it is imperative that they be able to FEEL and construct their lessons, as it aids in the learning process.

With your help, I'll be able to provide my students with the supplies and environment they need to be ready to take on the world.

My Project

Students have a hard time visualizing things they've never seen. While videos and digital resources are more in keeping with the times, sometimes students prefer a quiet browse through a book, with helpful information and pictures they can study at their leisure.

With these expansions to our current classroom library, students will be able to explore the depths of the ocean even further and will have their eyes opened to more of the fantastical creatures found therein.

Students often browse our library when they've completed their assignments or search for extra credit in the pages of our discovery books, and the creatures and facts they discover send them searching for more.
