Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have nineteen young dedicated students who want to do well in school. They are all from different backgrounds, but that does not stop them from being best friends. My students are eager to learn and want to excel, but since the majority of their families do not speak English, the only time they can practice is at school with their friends and teachers.
I want to help my students reach their highest potential in school, but also outside of the classroom.
They are sponges that want to learn as much as they can.
My Project
In our classroom we love reading! My students love to hear new stories and they always ask me to read them books such as Junie B. Jones. When the majority of my first graders enter the class they can read books that just have sight words. As the year continues, the students start decoding words and start using strategies to help them read.
Students move through levels at a rapid speed as long as they have books to read.
In the classroom, we are missing something essential in order for my students to continue their love for learning. BOOKS! My students need books that are intriguing and interesting. They also need books that are at their reading level. I have asked for books that I know my students will enjoy reading and books that will help foster their love for learning.
