Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am new to Projects-Based Learning and extremely excited to be working with a wonderfully amazing group of kids. I teach Digital Media I and II to 9th and 10th grade students. Our county has a very diverse group of students, most of whom are from low-income families and would not have any other means of experiencing digital media other than at school. These cameras would open up a world of possibilities for them.

My students are very eager to learn, have tons of ideas about what they can do and should do, but no supplies/resources to make these big dreams and goals possible. I teach them to "Believe" in themselves, to be proud of their community and these cameras would allow them to capture and showcase their community, their school and their experiences.

The flip digital video cameras are light-weight, extremely portable and most importantly "Digital". The digital attribute would deter any costs associated with purchasing tapes, pods, etc. The portability would allow the students the freedom to walk to and from on the campus and not be burdened down with heavy equipment. The cameras would also take only seconds to upload the students' videos which would in turn, increase the amount of time available for instruction, workshops, planning and group collaborations.

Your help will give my students the opportunity to see their landscape through new eyes. Their community will be on screen and new and fresh to them. Their lives will come alive!
