My Students

In NYC, a select few teachers were selected to participate in an Algebra for All Initiative. I have been lucky enough to participate. This will be my first year teaching fifth grade. I am excited that this upcoming school year, I will be teaching algebra to two fifth grade classes.

These fifth grade classes are behind their peers in mathematics.

I am excited to help bridge the gap and help these students be and feel successful. Somewhere along the way they began to struggle and their needs were not addressed. I hope to change that especially before entering middle school.

My Project

I have been a teaching for ten years and this will be my first year as fifth grade math teacher. I have received over 40 hours of professional development in the "Algebra for All" initiative in NYC, which will expose students to algebra before ninth grade. I need the extra support of Number Talks. My students need help in being able to communicate math strategies they used with their peers, classroom, and on exams.

With these books, students will be given tools to help them become successful in math.

They will strengthen skills from previous grades so that they can catch up to their peers in the fifth grade and perform on grade level. These hardworking students just need a chance and need a different type of instruction that will help them be successful.
