My Students

My students live in a rural community with a population of approximately 1,005. The nearest public libraries are more than 10 miles away and are not available to most of my students' families without them paying an annual usage fee. My K-6th grade and 7-12th grade school libraries are a way for me to "fill the information gap" for my students.

As the K-12 school librarian, I want my students to be curious—curious to explore their own interests further, curious to seek out the truth by asking questions and by being informed, and curious to generate possible solutions to any problems they encounter, now and in the future.

I am blessed to impact the lives of my students throughout their entire public education career! I strive to ensure that each student reaches their full potential and has a desire to continue learning throughout the rest of their life.

As my MC Hammer song parody suggests, the Reopening Archives, Libraries, and Museums (REALM) research project has found that all library materials, once handled, should be quarantined for four days to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Having an additional two-sided book truck for each of my libraries will provide me with a quick way to organize library materials as they are returned. With the book trucks that are already part of my library, I will be able to rotate and have one side of a cart for each day's materials. These book trucks are mobile, allowing for easier reshelving of library materials once the four-day quarantine is complete.

Even after the need for a COVID-19 quarantine, I will be able to use these new book trucks to help organize new library materials while processing. I'll also be able to better organize any of our community's Little Free Library donations.
