My Project

Having taught mathematics and statistics at an HBCU for 5 years, I have witnessed the magical experiences for students of color at a Historically Black Colleges & Universities.

With pennants from HBCUs displayed in my high school math classroom, my students will have exposure to an expanded list of schools where they may want to apply for post-secondary education.

Teens (and adults) may change their minds many times before landing on the college and career that best fits them. Smaller colleges tend to have more opportunities for more individualized attention from faculty and staff for students. At HBCUs, the stakes are much higher for each student to successfully matriculate with the skills and knowledge necessary to compete for greatness within their fields.

My job now is to build their math skills as far as possible and to point them toward doors for their next journey. Hanging these pennants in my classroom will afford them more options for tomorrow.
