My Project

My 8th grade students are looking to run a yoga club because of all the yoga we have practiced in the classroom whether it would be chair yoga or standing up on the mats. My students would like to create a yoga club in the gym and build a school wide community that practices mindfulness. My student were inspired to create this community because we get to see the park across the street from us doing a tai chi class outside. The next step that we would like to happen when it starts getting warmer outside is to take our yoga mats and collaborate with the park people to build upon a community that practices different types of wellness activities. My students are trying to recruit as many other kids as possible in the school. We also discuss the importance of healthy snacks in our class and whats good for us and not as well.

Yoga can help students develop flexibility, strength, and balance, which contributes to overall health.

Practicing yoga can reduce stress and anxiety. Incorporating mindfulness practices into the classroom helps students manage their emotions better. Short yoga sessions can improve focus. A few minutes of stretching or breathing exercises can refresh students’ minds and prepare them for learning. Group yoga activities foster teamwork and collaboration, helping to build a supportive classroom community.

Healthy snacks provide essential nutrients that support brain function, helping students stay alert and engaged. Nutritious snacks can sustain energy levels, preventing the midday slump that often affects concentration and productivity. Offering healthy snacks teaches students about nutrition and encourages them to make better food choices, fostering lifelong healthy habits. Sharing healthy snacks can promote social interactions, helping students build relationships and a sense of belonging within the classroom.
