Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am the mindfulness and yoga teacher at my school and I teach mostly students with special needs. My students come from all over the world and many languages are spoken at my school. Many of the students come from single-parent family and some live in shelters. We are a school with a supportive administration and awesome staff, many who volunteer their time to provide special events and programs for our students and families. Including myself, I provide with my own funds, materials and supplies to teach my students mindfulness and yoga techniques. My students love practicing yoga and it has really helped them to relax and become more present, balanced and connected to their body. I have seen a positive change in their confidence and behavior since I started practicing yoga with them. My students either practice on the hard floor or they use a few old ripped up yoga mats. I would love to provide them with new yoga mats to use, so that they can enhance their practice. I could use support to strengthen my students skills with yoga mats. The mats will also elevate their love and passion for the practice.

My Project

Yoga mats will enhance my students practice. With various sizes of mats that I chose for my class, my students will be able to fully practice all the yoga poses I have taught them on a soft mat, as opposed to a hard floor. The mats will provide them with the full benefits of each pose and allow them to connect with their body as they move freely from one pose to the next. My students love to practice yoga in my class and having them use a mat to practice will elevate their love, excitement and enthusiasm for yoga.
