This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need yoga mats to be able to participate in my yoga unit so they can add to their physical fitness, self-regulation, and mind/body awareness. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students deal with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges that they are dealing with , I am looking to ignite a love of respect for self and others and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

Many of my students are living with anger issues and have no way to express or balance their emotions.

Yoga can bring students into the present moment which is the most basic requirement for learning. It can create an atmosphere of enthusiasm , confidence , and non competitiveness where everyone can succeed at their own personal best.

My students want to succeed - and I believe they can! I want to help them develop more mindfulness , confidence , harmonious classroom relationships and improves listening skills. Yoga will allow my students this and also to learn relaxation and develop essential skills for a lifetime of wellness in mind , body and spirit.

My Project

The yoga mats and cards will allow students to become more physically fit by increasing their flexibility,strength, and balance. They will become more mindful by practicing attention,concentration,and self/social awareness. Self regulations of their emotional and stress levels will also be an outcome of our practice. I can hardly wait to watch the increase of positive behaviors such as mood , well being,cognitive /academic performance,relaxation, and relationships . I'll also enjoy watching the negative behaviors such as stress, anger, acting out and psychological disorders disappear. My students will be thrilled to learn another athletic skill instead of just playing the usual sports such basketball and baseball.
