This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a 5th grade class in a low income neighborhood. My students are amazing, but unfortunately they do not have a lot opportunities to exercise. Due to the economical situation of their parents, they can not have the chance to get an after school exercise class. Also, due to the dangerous neighborhood where they live in, they can not go and take walks around their block or use their local park. Lamentably, they end up watching tv or playing video games all day.

My fabulous fifth graders deserve to have an opportunity to exercise and develop healthier habits that will stay with them, even after we are done with our school year together.

They are so eager to learn new things and excited to learn a new way of exercising. We have been doing some standing yoga positions, but they deserve to be able to learn the most common yoga poses, and benefit from them.

Allowing them to have these yoga materials is the best way for me to show them they can learn to exercise in a new and fun way. This also will teach them a way to manage their day to day stress, making them well rounded and productive individuals.
